Getting Started
Only major steps are listed on this page.
For detailed instructions on how to setup Cachya,
please read "Getting Started" section in
"Cachya User's Manual".
[Step 1: Download and install software]
- Download the latest version software at
Download Page.
- Login PC as Administrator.
- Open the downloaded package file and follow instructions to install the software.
Windows may display "unsigned driver warning message",
click either "OK" or "Continue anyway" button on the message box.
[Step 2: Make a good Head Sign]
- Download the Head Sign image at
Download Page.
- Print it out on a non-reflective white paper.
- It is optional but recommended to strengthen the paper by
sticking on another layer of cardboard.
- Trim the image along the boarder with a scissors or sharp knife,
then fold and attach it, as shown in the pictures below.
- Mount it on a hat with double-sided tape (last picture).
- Put the hat on, with the Head Sign side facing the camera.
[Step 3: Adjust camera]
- Start software by clicking the new icon on your desktop.
Here is a screenshot
- If there is a video capture device connected, you should
see the live video on screen.
- Click "Source" or "Capture Filter" button to open
video source configuration dialog.
- Disable all auto-settings, most importantly,
the auto exposure.
Some web cameras require re-starting Cachya.
- Adjust exposure, brightness until the SIGN is clearly seen.
Don't make the SIGN too bright, Cachya prefers low noise rather than
bright object.
- Move your head around and make sure that the camera has good vision
to the SIGN.
- Close the dialog window.
- You should see a "+" in the middle of the Head Sign
(as shown in the picture below),
which indicates Cachya has recognized and
locked on to the Head Sign.
- Video quality is important for reliable head tracking.
It is sometimes tricky to find a good setting for a paricular camera.
Cachya can work well with most webcams;
what you need is a little patience and experience.
Please read "Cachya User's Manual" section 6.5 -
"Enable real-time video tracking" for
more detailed instructions and hints on video setup.
[Step 4: Enable Mouse/Joystick simulation]
- Click "Game Control" button. On the pop-up dialog box,
check the outputs that you want to enable.
Trial version software allows only one axis to be actived at a time.
Full version software has no such restriction.
- Bring up joystick/mouse configuration dialog,
map each axes/output as shown in the pictures below.
[Step 5: Adjust sensitivity]
- Use sesitivity Slid-Bars on front panel
to adjust sensitivities, as shown below.
[Step 6: Hook up to the game]
- Start your game.
- Define the usages of each joystick axis
or mouse output with game configuration tools.
- For game configuration examples,
read "Gaming configuration examples" section in
"Cachya User's Manual".
